Studio Software for Solo Creators
Working alone does not mean working without a system. This page covers which parts of My Content Tools matter most when you are the whole studio.
The solo creator problem
When you are the performer, the producer, the editor and the bookkeeper, the business side is what slips. Shoots happen, content goes out, and then a month later you cannot say what you earned or which custom orders are still open. You do not need enterprise software; you need a few things to be reliable.
What to use first
If you are on your own, start with these three and ignore the rest until you want them.
- Custom order tracking. One record per order with price, deposit, status and refunds, and the net after fees. See custom order tracking.
- Revenue, expenses and the monthly P&L. Import revenue from platform reports, log expenses, and read one report a month. See creator revenue tracking.
- Shoots on a calendar. Import from Google Calendar and keep each shoot's rate and hours with it. See shoot scheduling.
When you work with others
Even solo creators collaborate sometimes: a co-performer, a guest, a hired photographer. As soon as another person appears on camera, the paperwork matters. Model Release Pro on your phone captures the ID and a signed release, and it arrives in My Content Tools after you press Sync, so your collaborator records are in one place from the first shoot.
Content and promotion
The video library keeps your clips searchable, with AI description and hashtag suggestions and tools for previews, screenshots, thumbnails and clips. If you promote on X, you can draft and schedule posts with your own X developer keys; posts go out while My Content Tools is open. See scheduling X posts.
Cost and privacy
One subscription, $19.95 per month plus applicable tax, covers the desktop app and the phone app. You get a 30-day free trial at sign-up with no card required. Your records are stored on your own computer. If you use Model Release Pro, what you capture on your phone is sent through our cloud service so it can be delivered to your computer when you press Sync.
It runs on Mac and Windows. Model Release Pro is live on Google Play for Android and on the App Store for iPhone. If you run a studio rather than working alone, read about My Content Tools for studios.
A realistic first week
You do not have to set everything up in one sitting. On day one, install the desktop app and enter your open custom orders. On day two, add the next few weeks of shoots, or import them from Google Calendar. By the end of the week, import last month's revenue reports and log the expenses you can remember. That is enough to produce your first monthly report.
From there, add things as you need them: the phone app when you next work with someone else, X scheduling when you want to batch your posting. A tool you grow into is easier to keep using than one you try to adopt all at once.
What it does not do
My Content Tools does not sell your content, run your accounts or replace your accountant. It is the back office: a place to keep records, orders and numbers in order so that the creative work gets your attention. It also does not give legal or tax advice, so keep asking professionals about those.
Frequently asked questions
Is it too much for one person?
You can use only the parts you need. A sensible place to start is orders, revenue and the calendar.
Do I need a phone app?
Only if you collect releases or ID. Model Release Pro is included with the same subscription.
What does it cost?
$19.95 per month, plus applicable tax, with a 30-day free trial and no card required.
Does it work with my sales platforms?
It imports revenue from the platform reports you download. It is independent software and not affiliated with any platform.
